The artist has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

The star was given the award on 16 October as his third album the album was named the best record of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots played in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

The money helped spaces that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues stemming from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces obtained funding support in upgrading infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in big venues helps the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," the star has said.

Two years ago, they donated their funds to the local youth club that developed their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked singer the singer. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory touched another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had rescued a couple of local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into community ownership.

The first in Southampton and the second in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
