Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51M viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 different tongues.
